So I did a thing….

I had the honor and privilege to serve as the 55th Regional Vice-Chair for the Northeast Black Law Student’s Association (NEBLSA). I humbly ran to become the 56th Regional Chair. NEBLSA is the family I chose, and I am excited so many choose it too.

NEBLSA is the regional affiliate of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) with membership in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

3Le Year Recap

Underdog……..

Throughout law school, I struggled to find my place. As a result, I am constantly feeling like the underdog. Where do I fit? Did I make the right decision? Should I have deferred law school for another year? Should I have done the Access to Law School? (I legit live down the street from the nation's most prestigious university, if not the world).

Over the past few years, I realized there is so much more out there. So why didn't I take advantage? Why didn't I know? Why didn't someone tell me? Why wasn't my LSAT score better?

Entering the most elitist profession has caused imposter syndrome to be at an all-time high. (Even in a community amongst your peers, elitism still seeps in, but that's a monologue for a different day). But here I am, working full-time at a small state school and going in the evening. Oh, the choices, the choices that I have made. I need help with if I made the right decision. Just because it was the only choice, was it the right choice? Nonetheless, I am finishing my 3L year with 12 credits remaining. I don't know if I made the right decision, but I made the best decision with my resources.

You may see glitz and glamour, but NOTHING is given to me. (some have chastised me on my appearance, but I accepted my present challenges and their comfort. Someone else's insecurities are just that, and we don't dim our light over here.) I dress and present myself in a way because I firmly believe you do not need to look like what you've gone through or endured.

This year I'll be more intentional, celebrate the wins more, and continue to show up and be the force I am.

Yours Truly,

Fontaine Ra-Jene Chambers
